Author Guidelines

CVT is open to submissions of two types of originals: original articles and book reviews.

Original articles are characterized by a report of results of an original research;

The original research articles shall follow the conventional model consisting of Introduction, Methods, Results and Discussion. Other formats may be accepted according to the contents presented. The Introduction must be brief, defining the studied problem, summarizing its importance and highlighting the gaps in knowledge that will be discussed in the article. Data sources, the studied population, sampling methods, selection criteria, analytical procedures, among others, should be described in a comprehensive and thorough, but concise way. The Results section shall be limited to describing results without interpretations/comparisons. Text shall complement instead of repeating what is described in tables and figures. Discussion shall include authors' appreciation of the study’s limitations, a comparison of the findings with existing literature, authors' interpretation of the obtained results and their main implications and possible indication of paths for further research.

Book reviews should contain the analysis of a work against a theoretical reference framework of the area proposed by the author, who should then evaluate and criticize the work exposing their own personal point of view.

CITATION GUIDELINES

Citations and bibliographic references must follow the pattern indicated by the 7th edition of the American Psychological Association (APA) guidelines, as exemplified below:

Citations in the body of the text should follow the author/year system.

If the quote is less than 40 words, it should be incorporated into the main text within quotation marks, including the page number. Quotes that exceed this length should be indented by 1.25 cm, using the same font and font size as the main text, with single spacing.

Citations from one or more authors:

One author: Fratucci (2014) (Fratucci, 2014)

Two authors: Botelho and Maciel (2014, p. 7) (Botelho & Maciel, 2014, p. 7)

Citation with three to five authors: "et al." is used. Fragelli et al. (2019) (Fragelli et al., 2019)

Citation with six or more authors: When there are more than six authors, only the surname of the first author is cited, followed by "et al." and the publication date. In the references, all authors must be included.

Citation with multiple authors supporting the same idea: When citing two or more works within the same parentheses, they should be presented in alphabetical order. (Biz & Correa, 2016; Buhalis & Law, 2008)

Citation of the same author with multiple publication dates: (Passos, Kastrup, & Escóssia, 2009, 2014)

Citation of the same author with the same publication date: (Zaoual, 2006a, 2006b, 2006c)

Citation of institutional authorship: For the first citation in the text, use the full name of the institution followed by the year in parentheses. Example: Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) (2016). (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics [IBGE], 2016). For subsequent citations, use the acronym or the institution's name without parentheses. Example: IBGE (2016). (IBGE, 2016).

Citation of a citation:

You must include the name of the author of the original work, followed by the year, and then the term "as cited in." After that, include the author, year, and page of the work you are consulting. In the references, you only need to include the data of the work you consulted. Example: Massey (1993 as cited in Haesbaert, 2004, p. 15) (Massey, 1993 as cited in Haesbaert, 2004, p. 15)

Citation with authors sharing the same last name:
Include the initials of the author you consulted before the last name, followed by the publication year of the work. Example: L. F. Silva (1997) (L. F. Silva, 1997)

S. K. M. Silva and Alves (2014) (S. K. M. Silva & Alves, 2014)

Page (p. / pp.):

In direct quotations and references, use "p." when indicating a single cited page and "pp." when there are multiple cited pages.

Highlights [our emphasis] and [author's emphasis]:

[author's emphasis] - emphasis appearing in the original work.

[our emphasis] - original without emphasis, emphasis included when cited in the work. Example:
And such situations teach us to "grasp fluid, uncertain, unfinished phenomena, which elude the gaze overly concerned with material and institutional structures [our emphasis], precisely because they can unfold a priori anywhere" (AGIER, 2011, pp. 94-95).
