The São João de Campina Grande (PB) became an event of national and international repercussion. Starting from a cultural and regional character, with northeastern roots rescue, elements of great show were inserted through the years, transforming it into a mega event. Therewith, the identity of the festivity was expressed in different forms. Based on this, the following research question is proposed: how the São João de Campina Grande cultural identity is configured having its transformation into a mega event? For this, we conducted a qualitative research through interviews. Data were accessed together with four groups of the festivity-producing agents and analyzed using discourse analysis. Results reveal that São João de Campina Grande’s cultural identity is shaped by the existence of dichotomies that underpin two identity discourses: traditional and modern.Downloads
